The creator of this small mixed-media artwork is Karin Willems, founder of Zenza, who has been passionate about textiles since her youth. Her career began in a craft store, followed by a stint as a jewelry designer, and for over 30 years now, she has been the creative director of Zenza Home. For her, the creative process is essential, marked by great admiration for the artisans who crafted handmade objects centuries ago.  

Her designs emerge intuitively, often inspired by nature. She finds fascination in fungi, lichens, and shelf mushrooms, drawn to their organic shapes and interconnectedness, which reflect the strength and fragility of life.  

Karin discovered felting during a period of change. She finds the process soothing and meditative, as the transformation from soft wool to sturdy fabric feels almost alchemical. The scent of wool and olive soap brings her back to nature.  

She creates compositions from hand-felted fabric, embroidered elements, silk, flax, and jute—each lovingly brought together in her hands. These small works of art fit beautifully in curated wall displays, on a charming shelf, or atop a cabinet. Grouped together, their effect is even more striking. Each piece is crafted with care and passion!
